Finally a post! Sorry ya'll!

Man, I hate school this semester, I really do. Don’t get me wrong, I love the fact that I am back in school and working towards a degree in a field that I actually want to be in, but damn if this semester is not kicking my ass! If you haven’t heard me bitch about it before, here it is, I have a literature class this semester, the reading of fiction. Look, I am not trying to say I hate reading, in fact I wish I had more time to read, but the book selection so far has been horrid and, to make matters worse, the pace at which we have to read is insane. Basically, so you all understand it better because I know you want too, is I have a 14 week semester and have to squeeze in four novels people, which on average are about 300 pages long! Plus, on top of that, we have a book of short stories that we are required to read, we get about three assigned to us each week, and we have to analyze them and all this other crap! The first novel I am reading (“Rule of the Bone” by Russell Banks) is the biggest piece of shit I have ever read in my life, and I am only a third of the way done. I think my biggest problem with the book is the way it is written, as in there is no structure what so ever! You could have an entire page that contains only three sentences… that is right, the man is in love with run-ons! And, to top it off, he doesn’t use quotation marks when people are having conversations; it is driving me absolutely insane! Oh, one last thing too, I also have a 250 page book that I have to read for my “Intro to Sociology” class by March as well. All right, now that the bitching is out of the way, I guess I will briefly turn my attention to sports for awhile.

The Pistons lost last night, so is the sky falling or what? Look, I missed the first half but watched the second, and it just looked to me like they were tired. The shots they normally hit in their sleep were not falling and you could tell the Nets were more amped up for the game. Besides, hopefully last night will remind them to not fall in love with the three ball so much, something they have done lately. The amazing thing about the Pistons is that they have not lost back to back games this season and there is a reason, it seems each loss is a reality check, a slap in the face, a wake up call. They got too much one on one earlier in the season, the loss to Utah, Ben Wallace speaks up and they put a run together. Hopefully this game will be the same and they will start to look inside a little more, I am not saying give up the three, but maybe just spend a little less quality time with it, that is all.

The Lions appear to be putting together a pretty decent coaching staff here folks, at least on paper. I like the Donnie Henderson hiring as defensive coordinator, he has some pedigree there and I think him and Marinelli will work nicely together. Now, as far as Mike Martz is concerned, it sounds like a done deal and for a harmless one year stint, so I guess it can’t be that bad. The only question I have for Martz is (I am sure it is an old joke by now but I still like it anyway) if you have a bad heart fella why would you want to come here? I mean, you do know that Joey Harrington is our QB right? You know he is about as accurate as a school girl right? Are you just asking for more heart problems? I know that you worked a miracle with Kurt Warner and Marc Bulger, but I don’t know if you can do it with Joey but I wish you well. At the very least maybe you can do what you did for Warner but in the opposite, as in you took Warner from stocking shelves to NFL QB so maybe you can take Joey from NFL QB to shelf stocking. That is if he could hit the wide open shelves with the groceries and not miss.

Lastly, and I hope I can do a more extensive post on it later in the week; I would like to talk about the Super Bowl for a second. I am sticking with Pittsburgh, although I think Seattle will give them a run for the money. I do not expect a blowout, I don’t expect a high scoring game, and I expect one of the best, most evenly matched Super Bowls in awhile. I think it will come down to the fourth quarter, who can control the clock and whom can grind it out the best. In that case I give the edge to the Steelers because they got “The Bus” baby and I think he will end his career in the most special of ways, which is rare and most deserved. My final score guess is:

Steelers 27, Seahawks 21

That is all for now, back to work and back to reading, peace out! The sports dude.
