Leyland it is!

The Tigers have apparently found their man, a news conference is scheduled today to make a "major" announcement this afternoon. Here is a link to an ESPN article to verify what is expected.

Look, I still think Trammell got the short end of the stick and was never given a chance to grow into a manager. This is strictly a business move, clearly Dombrowski is now feeling the heat because he is in the final year of his contract. He needs to win now or face getting fired himself and going with a guy he knows in Leyland is safer than putting a risk in Tram again next year. That is the bottom line here folks, nothing more, nothing less.

Look, there really is a lot of mixed emotion here as far as I am concerned, one of my most vivid memories from childhood is going to "The Corner" for game #5 of the World Series. Of course we all know that Trammell was the MVP of that Championship Team. Does that automatically mean that the guy is going to be able to "restore the roar" once he becomes manager? No, it obviously doesn't, we all have seen what has happened the past three years as proof. But was he ever given a fair shake? His first year was a wash, we all know they purged the system, put a minor league team in the majors and just needed to see what the hell was there. Last season the Tigers had the greatest turn around in team history and Dombrowski even award Tram with an extra year on his contract. Then this year hit, the Percival signing, the Maggs signing, all the signs were there for it to be a contending year. Was it's Trammells fault that Maggs had a sports hernia? Was it his fault that Percival was washed up? That Farnsworth was traded? The Pudge was a huge, underachieving pussy? (Sorry for the language, but it is true!) That Guillen went down? Rondell White? Dmitri Young was a joke? From three closers to no closers? The bottom line is this, if Leyland was here, what do you think the Tigers record would have been? Maybe an extra 5-10 games, but that still ain't contending to me! Bottom line, not even an experienced manager could have save the ship from sinking this year and this is the truth.

Look, we all know Tram was a "PR" move when he was hired a year ago, but I truly think that if were not Dombrowski's contract year then things would have been different, but that is just my honest opinion. I don't know, maybe the Tigers need an experienced manager, but all the experience in the world most likely would have not saved this season.

Lastly, although it is a touchy subject, the sports dude is going to say it anyway. Why waste the time of Juan Samuel and Bruce Fields, does anyone else see the words "token interview" stamped on their foreheads? That, to me, is the greatest crime of all. No knock on Dave Dombrowski, he did what he was supposed to do, but shame on MLB for this total slap in the face for minorities everywhere. The system doesn't work, it is more of an insult than a help, and I for one am embarrassed that those two guys were tokens and clearly used because MLB says that is the way it is supposed to be.

That is all I got, I need to go - the sports dude.
